339/365 – Wall of water

Black and white, Photography

The weekend was horribly windy and wet as storm Desmond hit the UK.  The west side of the country bore the brunt of the weather with a month’s worth of rain falling in one weekend.  Rivers in Cumbria and Lancashire burst their banks, flooding homes and businesses and brining misery to thousands of people in the run up to Christmas.  In South Yorkshire the wild wind whipped over the hills and kept us indoors for the most of the weekend, but we’d heard that the high waters of the Derwent Reservoir were flowing over the dam wall.  After a hearty breakfast, we braved the weather to see the overflowing torrent.

  1. You have portrayed a great sense of scale. It was rather a breezy wet weekend here in Bradford as well!
