18/365 – Dunstanburgh Castle at Dawn

Black and white, Photography

Towards the end of 2014, I came runner up in a photography competition for the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership.  Phew, that’s a bit of a mouthful.  My prize was a photo walk with the professional photographer, Andy Craig, who’s based in Northumberland, hence my visit.  If you’re interested, Andy has a great blog called Northumberland360 which is definitely worth a visit.

It was a fabulous morning (before the rain set in) and Andy talked me through a number of key elements of photography – motivation, observation and visualisation.  We had a great time discussing art , composition and whether it’s ‘okay’ to take photos on your phone and still be considered a photographer.   I thoroughly enjoyed myself and took loads of photos, so choosing one was extremely difficult…  These aren’t a patch on Andy’s pictures but I want to thank him for sharing such a beautiful spot with me.

    • Yes it was a nice prize. I wasn’t sure what to expect but Andy was a great communicator and helped consolidate some of my previous learning. This year, I might try a few more competitions. You’ve got to be in it to win it 😛

Why not leave a comment - it will keep me motivated!
